Mathematics, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer - 8 September 2026 | 15:30-16:30 | @ICTP

We are pleased to invite you to attend the Round Table “Mathematics, Innovation and Knowledge Transfer”, which will take place on 8th September from 15:30 to 16:30 at ICTP - Budinich Lecture Hall, as part of the First Italy-China Mathematical Bilateral Meeting.

The Round Table will bring together representatives from academia, institutions, and industry from both Italy and China to discuss the role of mathematics in innovation, knowledge transfer, and collaboration between research and society. The event will offer a unique opportunity to explore how fundamental research can contribute to technological advancement, economic development, and societal impact.

Two world-leading mathematicians from Europe and China will discuss how applied mathematics drives innovation and helps address complex global challenges. The debate will compare different academic approaches and perspectives, with moderation by the CTO of a major US multinational bringing an industry viewpoint.

For SISSA, the scientific coordinators of the initiative are Prof. Antonio Lerario and Prof. Nicola Gigli. The event is part of the School’s Third Mission activities, aimed at fostering dialogue between academic research, the public sector, and the wider socio-economic ecosystem.

For organisational purposes, we kindly ask you to confirm your attendance as soon as possible by registering through the following link: https://indico.ictp.it/event/11160/overview. When registering, please indicate in the comments section that you will attend only the Round Table on 8th September.
