MARS42 Spring Edition 2018

Dear Students and Researchers,

We are glad to present you the Spring Edition 2018 of MARS42, an Innovation School hosted by SISSA and developed in collaboration with The Doers, a firm that helps people and companies to sail through uncertainty and to successfully innovate.

The purpose of MARS42 is to provide PhD students and Post-Docs with a guidance for reading research under a new light.

A deep dive into a “Blended program” that allows participants to:

-       Learn how to apply a scientific methodology to develop an Entrepreneurial research project that really meets the market needs, without wasting time and resources;

-       Analyse trends and methodologies for dealing with R&D inside companies, in order to better understand possible career paths.

Compared to the last year’s edition (you can find out more here http://mars42.org/summer2017/), MARS42 has been re-designed on a “Blended program”, structured as follow:

Residential bootcamp: May 14 - May 18

The first phase of the journey at MARS42 starts with a 5 day bootcamp. After an initial kick-off, you deep dive into different innovation methodologies that let you - as a team - understand what the real need of your potential customers is, and meet experts who work in the Innovation and R&D divisions within corporations and startups.

Remote know-how transfer: 4 weeks

The second phase is a 4-week long project-work led remotely. You work with the same team built during the bootcamp with the support of a dedicated coach in order to continue with the market discovery and strengthen your know-how.

During this period you will also receive case studies, articles and material to better develop your project.

Landing phase: 2 days

The Final days of the program sees participants presenting their achievement to a panel of stakeholders such as the University management, local institutions and representatives of the companies and sponsors.

Participants are organized in teams and each of them works on a different project.

Costs

The course fee is Euro 2.000,00 VAT included and will be paid directly to TheDoers Srl. SISSA makes available 13 contributions (which will cover 90% of the overall costs and that will be granted on competitive basis) for its students and research fellowship holders (“assegnisti di ricerca”). All the other 3rd and 4th year SISSA students will be in any case entitled to use their budget for “Contribution for training and research expenses” (this possibility is not allowed to those who will be granted the above mentioned contribution). For further information, please write to tto@sissa.it or contact the Technology Transfer Office (room 214).
